District 2020 supports startups in the Emirates

A partnership has begun with the Mohammed bin Rashid Enterprise Development Foundation


District 2020, the innovation system and the future of Expo 2020, entered into a strategic partnership agreement with the Mohammed Bin Rashid Establishment for Small and Medium Enterprises Development (Dubai SME) and the Mohammed Bin Rashid Innovation Fund (MBRIF).




The District 2020, Innovation System and the future of Expo 2020, signed a strategic partnership agreement with the Mohammed Bin Rashid Establishment for Small and Medium Enterprises Development (Dubai SME) and the Mohammed Bin Rashid Innovation Fund (MBRIF), in support of the District 2020 World Program for Rowad Business "Skill 2 Dubai" - Dubai Launch Program.


In line with the proactive approach adopted by Dubai and the United Arab Emirates to support small and medium-sized companies and promote the flexible economy of the country in light of the "Covid-19" pandemic, the two institutions will bring together "District 2020" with a group of emerging and small companies with high potential, by assisting projects that achieve the required conditions To join the "Skill Dubai 2 Dubai" launch program, and then to provide it with the guidance, relationships and financing needed to continue its growth within the "Skill 2 Dubai" program.

Expo 2020 Dubai, which will be held from October 1, 2021 to March 31, 2022, will review the best models of cooperation, innovation and solidarity at the global level, and help revitalize the global economy by bringing together the brightest minds from different countries in order to find solutions to a group of the most pressing challenges in Our time.


District 2020, which aims to support the growth of different industries, will be developed during a transition period of nine months that will follow the international event, during which more than 80 percent of Expo 2020 facilities will be re-employed. The District 2020 will constitute a mixed-use community and an innovative system that will support Dubai's position as A pioneering center for innovation, the Expo 2020 march complements the stimulation of business opportunities, as well as supporting emerging, small and medium-sized companies, which are an integral part of the UAE economy.


These two partnerships represent an important step towards achieving the 'District 2020' vision as an innovation system, as they will enable startups and small companies to join the start-up program from Dubai Skyl2 Dubai, reach the District 2020 platform, and expand from them locally and internationally, in addition to granting these projects and companies Opportunities to communicate with a group of the largest institutions, access to finance, and other factors enabling growth.


His Excellency Abdul Basit Al Janahi, CEO of the Mohammed Bin Rashid Establishment for Small and Medium Enterprises Development, said in a comment on this partnership: “Since its inception in 2002, the Mohammed Bin Rashid Foundation for Small and Medium Enterprises Development has launched several programs and initiatives to support entrepreneurs and enhance the innovation system in the UAE. As an institution dedicated to supporting the creation and development of innovative startups, our vision is closely aligned with 'District 2020'.


He added: "We will nominate innovative national projects from the members of the 'Hamdan Innovation and Creativity', and from the various countries participating in the 'Attract Innovation Program', in order to strengthen the 'District 2020' as a platform for emerging projects to grow regionally and enter international markets."


The Mohammed Bin Rashid Innovation Fund initiative, launched by the Ministry of Finance in 2016, was designed to support innovation in the United Arab Emirates, and to enhance the growth capabilities of emerging innovative projects that now outline the future of the country's economy.
